4.4 ADC Adapter

An ADC Adapter can be connected to the SP-ICE-3 Card in order to record analogue signals specific to an application.

For process monitoring, in particular, the signal samples from the adapter can be correlated with scanner position data in the time domain.

Such signals could be, for instance:

  • Workpiece surface temperature, measured by a pyrometer;

  • Real laser output power level, detected by a suitable sensor;

  • etc.

The ADC Adapter provides four independent analogue input channels.

ADC channel characteristics

Resolution

16 bits

Sampling Rate

100000 per second

Input Connection

Differential or Single-Ended

Reference

AGND

(Isolated from the SP-ICE-3 Card's digital GND, and from the slot bracket.)

Output

Signed integer value in the range:

-32768 (Uin_diff = -5V) to +32767 (Uin_diff = +5V) .

Configuration

The ADC Adapter does not auto-configure itself at power-on (unlike, for instance, the XY2-100 Adapter).

Please refer to 4.4.3 ADC Adapter Configuration.

If the red "Conf Pending" LED is on (see diagram), the adapter has not yet been configured.

Connection to SP-ICE-3 Card

The ADC Adapter is delivered with one ribbon cable, which should be used to connect the adapter to the card as follows:

SP-ICE-3 Card

J701

X901

Caution note  Caution

Make sure that the SP-ICE-3 Card is not powered when connecting to X901, otherwise the IO driver may be damaged.
